Viktorija had her eye exam today. She was more anxious about this than her dental appt last week. The staff treated her very well and, although she's a bit nearsighted, she won't require glasses at this time. One of the staff we met today was a nice Christian lady named, Jackie. She told us she has a good friend from Lativia, named Viktorija. Her friend is an interpreter in SC and also does a fair amount of missionary work. The longer Jackie and I talked, the more interested she became in the hosting program we are involved in. Jackie also wants the two Viktorijas to meet. How exciting for Viktorija to have someone she can converse with in her native language! And, a Christian, at that! Maybe God can use her to make an impact on Viktorija. Viktorija looks at the calendar that we filled out for her everyday. She was talking to me about the upcoming activities and when it came to Sundays, she paused. I asked her what she was thinking and she said she didn't like Sunday school because she couldn't understand what they were saying. This is what one of my prayers has been, that God's love will transcend the language barrier and she will come to understand it. It's only been a week....keep those prayers going! I can't imagine how incredibly nerve racking it would be not to understand much of what people were talking about. Overall, she is doing better with her English. She has used a few full sentences with me today vs. single words.
We did a bit of clothes shopping for her today also. Since I had purchased some items before her arrival that were too big, we did some exchanges and got her some clothes that fit properly:-) She was excited to be able to pick out her clothes!
As some of you might have noticed, the spelling of Viktorija's name has changed...again. We think she is trying to "Americanize" her name since it reads Viktorija on all of her documentation. And, she has spelled it Viktoria and Victoria since she's been here. Very interesting...
She's tucked in for the night. The past several evenings she has tried to "bargain" to stay up a little later. But, when we say "no" she willingly obeys.
